Owen, the work that you and your crew have done each year has always been appreciated by those of us who plan our summer vacations around the SBW weekend. I was fortunate enough this year to have my son ride his ZX6RR to the coast from Winnipeg, then we rode to Oliver, the first time we'd ever ridden together. He had never ridden in the mountains before and was completely blown away by the gathering and the roads at SBW. He had already planned on returning next year. I've already emailed many of my close riding friends to get together for our own SBW weekend out your way. I can understand your decision to end your involvement in the event. For these many years of effort you and the crew have put into SBW I extend a most sincere "Thank you".

To all the SBW crew all I can say is "Thank you guys!!" For working your asses off for so many years to bring us such a good time!!! Its been a once a year pilgrimage for me and my friends for a long time. Some of which I only got to see once a year at SBW.
I also want to say that I understand. After running Chaos for 10 years I know the effect that kind of commitment can have on family, friends ,health and just life in general.
I will always be proud of the fact Chaos was part of SBW 10. Thank you guys for that opportunity. And Owen you were going to be my monkey for the 07 stunt show! Well this is a lousy way to try to get out of it!! LoL !!
All the best in the future from me and the Chaos crew!

WoW I cannot believe it is ending! What a shame, after riding all the straight bumpy roads in edmonton I always looked forward to coming to sport bike weat to socialize and ride those beautiful twisty roads. Well Owen after we talked at the gas station after everyone filled up I thought somthing was not quite right and my fears have come true. I want to thank Owen and the crew for all of there effort and the great times we all had.

I just read this on Edmonton sport riders as a lot of the members went and was saddened to hear that it will be suspended indefitly but i was wonderin why can't we all jsut get together and have a rally anyway... the community is greatly affected by this and "pardon to say" if sturgis can jsut cometogether liek a family and have a place ot go anyway why can't the sportbike riders jsut accumilate in the great area and just have a event anyway... if we all can just put a tentative date otu there liek round the dates of sprotbiek west anyway why can we not all just go there and take over the town anyway. it doesn't not have to end .....

RIP SBW! We had 8 great years together, and you'll be sorely missed....fun around the campfire, stirring up dust and trouble....too many wobbly pops and tune-ups! The roads...oh, those lovely interior twisties....The thrills and spills, dodging the law and slow-moving locals. I'll miss all that, and much more.
Thanks again for all the good times Owen, and yer ninjas too, we owe you so much.

See ya on the road somewhere....

I wanted to thank Owen and crew for putting on such a great event every year, and making the sacrifices needed to keep it going. Things change, and although I missed the last 2 years b/c of the sale of my bike, I have gotten into dirt riding, giving me more time to spend w/ my boys. I wish everyone all the best!

I just read Owen's email about the decision to suspend SBW. While I am very sad that this tremendous event will be no more, I can really empathise with the difficult decision the SBW crew has made. Putting on this kind of event is no easy task.

Owen and his crew have done such a tremendous job over the years not only keeping all of us attendees happy but also keeing the vendors, local politicians, hoteliers and authorities assured that we would bring our manners and make the communities happy to have us.

I've met so many great people over the years at SBW and I am proud to say that the legacy of SBW will live on through those great friendships.

SBW will be missed but it will always be in my heart and mind.

Cheers Owen!

My husband & I went (my first time, his second) & met so many new friends & a lot of old ones. The roads were great, as was the weather. The events were fantastic, and the organizers were a fun group to hang out with! It is too bad that there will be no more SBW, but thanks for the fond memories that came from this great experience!

Great job again Owen and Crew, this was my friends and my third year in a row, and we had a ball. It`s disappointing to hear the comments from the local fuzz. Dudes have to remember to play on the back roads only, not in town. All the town folks we talked to were very supportive, so hopefully not too much dammage was done. See you next year.

I tried to get there this year but Thursday night, the night before the start of SBW05, I got a call from home - my wife was in hospital having her appendix removed, i.e., end of bike tour for me. She's recovering nicely now.

My buddy and I, had made it to Kelowna after a week of riding around southern AB and BC, including a day in Montana, but Friday morning I packed up my GS and made it back to Edmonton fr Kelowna in 12 hours (ouch).

I've looked at all the pic's you guys have posted so far and it looks like it was another great event! (sniff - I missed it) My riding buddy continued without me and was good enough to stop by SBW and pick-up our 10th anniversary Tees since we had already paid for the weekend anyway. At least we have that! Very nice shirts! I'm gonna try to get there next year but who knows - my 'riding buddy', upon his solo return to Edmonton, told me he was selling his bike (1990 VFR)and gear??!?. I'm gonna have to have a serious talk with that boy!

Post more fantastic pics please and more comments about the event. I'm suffering from withdrawl - everything helps. Thanks.

To the famous five and support staff,
The venue for the rally (Southwind in Olvier) is fabulous-the roads, the weather, the attendees, the pool... all first class.
SBW will be the envy of all other bike rallys to be sure (with the exception of Sturgis but who can compete with Harley bitches flashing their titties all the time)?
Cheers and see you next year!

Go to http://www.sportbikewest.com/tshirt.html AFTER purchasing your ticket to reserve your desired shirt size. If you do not reserve a shirt, then it's first come first served, and you may be left with a less than ideal size. For those purchasing tickets on site, there is no method of reserving a particular shirt size as they have to be ordered ahead of time.

It was an excellent ride/event. Loved the stunt show. Can you make sure we get the proper shirts this time tho. Last year, a bunch of us had to work on friday so we arrived Saturday afternoon. Its kinda lame getting stuck with xxs or like xxxl tshirts, when you ordered xl's. I see this year there is no where to post/specify shirt sizes. Hopefully there'll be 5 xl's and 1 small by the time we get there.

First off, SBW is the best gathering of motorcycle riders that can be found anywhere in Western Canada....hell, North America!!
Secondly, Mamacita's response prompted myself to check out the b.s. that has been tossed around at Canadian Chaos. Unbelievable!! I met and watched these guys at the Canadian Superbike Championships in Calgary, as well as last weekend in Edmonton at the Grand Prix. And I have nothing but praise for these guys as they came across as the most friendly and professional individuals I have met to date! Both shows were unbelievable, especially Richard's "No front wheel wheelie" at the GP. No wonder the GP officials invited them back for next year!!!
I would like to conclude that SBW and Chaos are an excellent mix as both sides reek of class and professionalism.
Keep up the awesome work Chaos, Owen and crew.
We are coming in a few weeks to have another incredible time in Oliver with everyone at SBW.
See you all there!!

Finally a chick with a back bone hey Owen? You have my support also and a few of our friends. We want to ride! The stunt show last year was a nice attraction, but no one wants to back a few guys that want to behave like idiots. Canadian Chaos has been around for a while and alot of us who enjoy the sport are looking forward to watching those boys push the limits of these machines we ride CC have earned our respect. My wife and I are totally looking forward to 2005 SBW and so are our friends. Owen you have done a terrific job in the last few years and it keeps getting better. Keep up the great work, and Mamacita has got it right, there is a few hundred riders behind You, SBW and Canadian Chaos. Without your efforts some of these riders would never get the oppertunity to experience, the rush, new friends and relaxing fun we do. And we are not about to let some boys who are confused about bike gangs and "sport bike riders" spoil it for us. So Keep up the great work, and we'll see you soon. TinMan

Hi Owen,
I just wanted to say a big thank you for the last 3 years. The atmosphere is wonderful, most of the peole who attend are classy. I wanted to also commend you for putting Thundergod (whatever?) in his place. Canadian Chaos seem to be a classy group of gentalmen, not to mention talented. I wanted everyone to know that there was an article in Cycle Canada, on the Extreme Riders that attended SBW last year. I checked out the stuntlife.com web site on page 53 in this Augusts issue (on the bike). I checked out the chat forums. These Extreme Riders have made death threats against Canadian Chaos. Is anyone aware of this? I cannot imagine why Cycle Canada would waste 5 pages on a group of boys who are crossing legal lines with death threats and slander to a Stunt Team who clearly has enough of a good reputation to grace the Edmonton Grand Prix with their presence. I would love to be able to see these Canadain Chaos gents, show us their stuff. They have obviously earned everyones respect. These boys, Extreme Riders, need to grow up, nobody wants to have trouble makers at SBW. And I am glad you put that punk in his place. We will not tolerate abuse of any kind, and Owen you have a few hundred people backing you and Canadain Chaos on that!!!

Hey "thundergod" I'm glad you enjoyed the stunt show last year. It was definitely over the top. Prolly one of the most memorable events in the history of SBW. Your decision to not attend this year is your choice. If you were coming to SBW only to see the stunt show, then you were at the wrong event 'cause SBW is about the rally not the stunters. SBW is not a stunters turf war zone. I chose a different stunt team for two reasons. #1: to share the opportunity to stunt at an event. #2: Because for 7 years CC and I have tried to set up a stunt show. SBW is about the riders and the gathering. Don't turn it into a battle ground for street stunters.
Respectfully Owen Lloyd SportBike West.

Regarding passport requirements, what the poster below is referring to is the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. It does not take effect for the US/Canada border till the end of 2006. Official information at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html Note that although the Initiative only mentions entry into US, I'm told the same rule will aply to entry into Canada.
Note that the current required documentation is proof of citizenship such as birth certificate plus photo ID such as a driver's license, or of course a passport.

Just a quick note to all you SBW followers. Everyone from the states is going to have to get a passport to get across the border. I am not 100% sure but I have heard that come August you will need a passport go get into canada. Being that it takes about 6 weeks to get a passport which means not much time!!!

I noticed a news item in Cycle Canada regarding the eastern (original) version of the Sportbike Rally.....seems Mike Moloney, the organizer of that event, has pulled out and the town of Parry Sound (that's in "Onterrible" for the geographically-challenged) is debating whether or not the township should take over the event organization.

Could it be that SBW might soon be "Canada's Premier Sportbike Rally"???? I've no doubt that Owen and his capable crew can rise to the challenge!!!

sbw was great....had a blast on the osoyoss /rock creek hwy. i was wondering one thing though. do you have anymore sbw t-shirts kicking around. mine got wrecked when my truck broke down outside 10 mile house and 2 others with had to unload the bikes and put our gear on (red leathers for me) and ride back in the pouring rain all the way back to p.g.(and i left my rain gear at home, expecting to be in the comfort of my luxurious ford pickup) anyhow after a long trip in the rain , my friend nearly getting killed by a guy driving liek he was on crack, and a near-confrontation with teh guy(s) on crack or whatever. (we stopped to call the cops, he spun out in the rain and damaged his car and nearly took my freind out who was behind him, then he took off!)anyways whe we finally arrived and got my leathers off , (we went back to 100 mile that night with a different truck and got the trailer)i discovered that my new pride and joy SBW 2004 t-shirt got stained all red from my leathers. i was hoping to be able to purchase another one because mine is now ruined. please get back to me at ninjarider77@hotmail.com
